Josh Heupel first received backlash in the first half against Texas A&M when the Tennessee coach tried a 50-yard field goal that was missed. His decisions to kick a field goal, or go for it seemed to flummox Tennessee fans and media.

Heupel then stirred up the Vols fans with a questionable decision to run the ball on 3rd down early in the second half, and then try a pass on 4th down when Joe Milton was sacked.

At one point, the lackluster Tennessee offense crossed into A&M territory on 6 straight drives, and mustered just 7 points.

Fortunately for Heupel, the Vols got a big play from Dee Williams on a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown to take the lead with 6:47 left in the 3rd quarter.

Before that, the Tennessee drives ended this way: Punt, downs, punt, missed field goal, touchdown, downs and punt.

It was that offense, and those coaching decisions that reminded some of a former coach.
