Josh Heupel gives 'Jeremy Pruitt vibes' with head-scratching coaching decisions against Texas A&M
Josh Heupel first received backlash in the first half against Texas A&M when the Tennessee coach tried a 50-yard field goal that was missed. His decisions to kick a field goal, or go for it seemed to flummox Tennessee fans and media.
Heupel then stirred up the Vols fans with a questionable decision to run the ball on 3rd down early in the second half, and then try a pass on 4th down when Joe Milton was sacked.
At one point, the lackluster Tennessee offense crossed into A&M territory on 6 straight drives, and mustered just 7 points.
Fortunately for Heupel, the Vols got a big play from Dee Williams on a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown to take the lead with 6:47 left in the 3rd quarter.
Before that, the Tennessee drives ended this way: Punt, downs, punt, missed field goal, touchdown, downs and punt.
It was that offense, and those coaching decisions that reminded some of a former coach.
Here’s a sample of the reaction:
Getting Jeremy Pruitt and Jarrett Guarantano vibes with Joe Milton and Josh Heupel right now

You ***HAVE*** to kick that.

So Josh Heupel goes for it on 4th & 2 from the Texas A&M 18 yard line instead of kicking the field goal. Then he decided to try a 50 yard field goal on 4th & 2 from the 33 yard line with a kicker who is 0-3 on field goals 50+ yards this year.. makes sense

Jimbo and Josh Heupel are playing a fascinating game of who wants to lose more

JOSH HEUPEL ARE YOU DRUNK???? WHAT THE FLYING HELL ARE YOU DOING

That was an insanely stupid play call, Josh Heupel, after more really bad plays from Joe Milton.
PUT IN NICO

Josh Heupel in his own head.

How do you go for it on 4th and 7 and pass up a 47 yard field goal and don’t go for it on a 4th and 3 and attempt a 51 yard field goal? Just inexplicable decision making.
— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) October 14, 2023
Josh Heupel clearly has very little confidence in Joe Milton right now.
I’m about ready to see what Nico can do.

Now Tennessee Head Coach Josh Heupel has lost his mind instead of trying a tying field goal he elects to go for it and his Quarterback gets sacked I guess Josh let the Annular Eclipse affected his mind ????
