Josh Heupel is focused on UTSA and UTSA only following Week 3’s embarrassing loss to Florida.

At the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday afternoon, Heupel dialed in to chat with reporters about Tennessee’s Week 4 matchup against UTSA. The Roadrunner may or may not be without star quarterback Frank Harris, but that’s not what Heupel is worried about. He knows UTSA has a good team regardless.

No, Heupel is more focused on Tennessee’s response after Week 3’s loss. He told reporters that “every Saturday has it own identity” in college football, and Tennessee’s response after a rough loss will define who they are moving forward.

Heupel has already noted some good responses from a couple good days at practice. Now, he wants to see it on the field:

“A week ago, we let one play effect the next a little bit and as a competitor you can’t do that. (UTSA) This is a good team, man. They’re tough, they’re physical,” Heupel said. “They have good players at all 3 levels. Every Saturday has its own identity. In this league everyone has their own talent…if you don’t perform at your highest level it gets real tough real quick. Two really good days of practice. The energy in the building has been really good…You’ve got to take the lessons forward. You’ve got to learn from it and go compete.”

The Vols certainly have a lot to address against the Roadrunners. Offensive line play was shaky on Saturday, Tennessee’s offensive variety has been lacking and defensively, Florida’s athleticism kind of exposed a Vols’ corps that had played well against Virginia and Austin Peay.

Here’s the question: Was it simply a dud performance or the signs of a greater issue? We’ll get some idea based on how the Vols respond this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Knoxville.
