One of the strongest arms in all of college football has apparently gained some control over the offseason.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said that quarterback Joe Milton has been really accurate with the football and he’s not sure if he has thrown an interception at all during training camp, Volquest’s Eric Cain reported Wednesday.

Milton played second fiddle to Hendon Hooker, who put together a Heisman-caliber season before going down with a torn ACL last year. After Hooker was sidelined, Milton closed out the season against Vanderbilt before leading the Vols against Clemson in the Orange Bowl. In his two starts, Milton threw for 398 yards, 4 touchdowns and didn’t throw an interception.

Milton was Tennessee’s starter to begin the 2021 season and got plenty of reps in relief last season, but one of the biggest concerns with the Michigan transfer was his ability to control his throws.

It’s no secret that Milton could launch the ball farther than just about any quarterback in college football, but that often led to overthrows or situations where he put the ball in danger.

If Heupel’s claims about Milton’s accuracy are true, he could be on his way to a huge season.

Tennessee opens the season against Virginia on Sept. 2.
