Josh Heupel inherited a Tennessee program that was on the verge of falling apart in 2021. We’ve all heard that story before.

Jeremy Pruitt’s firing was followed by a massive influx of players into the transfer portal. Starters, reserves and more flocked to the portal, leaving the Vols’ roster a shell of what it originally was.

But Heupel turned a modest 7-6 first season into an 11-win season in Year 2 and is now looking at Tennessee’s deepest squad under his watch yet. He noted that change in roster depth on Day 1 of fall camp Wednesday, saying the change is “dramatically” different compared to where it was 2 seasons ago.

It’s hard to find a head coach that will tell you his team had a bad practice on Day 1 in college football. But part of that depth Heupel may be alluding to is lack of injury issues heading into August.

The Vols have only run into 1 injury issue so far. Reserve LB Kwauze Garland will miss the entire 2023 season while dealing with an injury. Otherwise (knock on wood, Vols fans) Tennessee has only reported minor injuries that should not eat into practice and playing time come September.

Here’s some brief looks around fall camp so far for Tennessee:
