After getting a week off with its bye week last weekend, Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday for a big home test against Texas A&M.

The Vols are looking for a signature win after bouncing back well from the loss to Florida with wins over UTSA and South Carolina. Josh Heupel gave a few injury updates on Monday ahead of the matchup against the Aggies.

Heupel said in his press conference that he expects cornerback Deneiko Slaughter to be ready to go against Texas A&M. Slaughter has played in just one game this season while dealing with a foot injury. Last season, he totaled 31 tackles and an interception.

Heupel also said that wide receiver Dont’e Thorton practiced with the team on Monday after missing the South Carolina game with an injury. Having Thorton back will be big for the Vols as they look to replace the production of Bru McCoy, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Gamecocks.

Tennessee will take time to honor Vols’ legendary defensive back Eric Berry, who played for Tennessee from 2007 to 2009. Berry will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at the end of the season.

“A guy that represents everything that is good about Tennessee football,” Heupel said of Berry.

Berry 245 tackles and 14 interceptions during his time with Tennessee.
