Josh Heupel has had a much different team so far this season, and it’s led to having to adjust his play calling and game management.

Saturday was an example of that as the Vols’ passing game struggled. Tennessee had to adjust and make plays on the ground, and it worked out for the most part.

On Monday, Heupel talked about his play calling and game management philosophy this season.

“Each Saturday essentially is a new season” Heupel said during his press conference. “Each game unfolds and the identity of the game takes place during the course of the game. You’ve gotta manage all of those situations from play calls, to what decisions you’re making in special teams, all of it. Proud that we got a win and you continually evaluate what you’re doing in all areas of and also try to push those lessons forward.”

Heupel and his staff have a big one this Saturday as they head to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama. The Vols found a way to win against the Aggies outside of their traditional identity, and they might need to do the same against the Tide.
