Country mustic star to headline Battle at Bristol tailgate party
Tennessee’s favorite country music singer will headline a concert at the Battle at Bristol.
Kenny Chesney will play Friday, September 9, one day ahead of the Tennessee-Virginia Tech game.
“My days at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City are where I first learned to love what I do,” said Chesney in a release. “I played a lot of music in the Bristol area during that time – and even made my first album there while still in college.
“I had a lot of dreams then, but never did I dream I would be playing at Bristol Motor Speedway. The idea of that was too big to dream. So to say I’m excited to be coming back to play in an area where this dream started is an understatement! Music and sports have defined my life, and it’s not every day an artist is allowed to combine the two for something as special as this.”
Joining Chesney is country music bands The Band Perry and Old Dominion.

The game is officially tainted now. The Chesney curse lives on.
Kenny Chesney hasn’t sang country music since maybe his second album. SDS, you lied.
No thank you. Chesney is about as country as Miley Cyrus. Looking forward to attending the game and the epic tailgate before and after, but don’t think this is a great idea. Only going to make the roads more crowded for what is already a notoriously hard place to drive in and out of. Stapleton would have been a MUCH better choice of entertainment.
Which of his jerseys will he wear? Florida? Tennessee? Will become a VTech fan all of a sudden? The guy bandwagons like no one else.
Country music star??????????? He doesn’t even play country music and he’s hardly a star…..
