Former Tennessee and NFL assistant Kippy Brown spoke to the Knoxville Quarterback Club about a number of topics, including Volunteers QB Joshua Dobbs chances of making it in the pros.

In Brown’s opinion, it’s all about finding the right fit for Dobbs. He compared Dobbs to recent mid-round draftees Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott.

“Without a doubt,” Brown said of Dobbs’ chances of being an NFL quarterback, according to Wes Rucker of 247Sports. “Now, he’s got to go to the right place. If he goes to Cleveland, he’s gonna get beat up, because they’re not very good right now.”

Brown went on to discuss how Wison and Prescott found success in the NFL thanks to their landing spots in Seattle and Dallas.

“Somebody’s gonna get this kid probably somewhere in the middle rounds,” Brown added. “They’ll pass on him for a while, and then somebody will say, ‘Hey, we can’t pass on this guy again.’ They know what happened with Dak. Same thing happened with Russell. Now, if he’s at Jacksonville with no help, or if he’s at Cleveland or somebody that’s down, no, it’s not gonna happen.

“But if he goes to a good football team, oh, yeah, he’ll be a heck of a player.”

Once thought to be the biggest issue for his pro career, Dobbs’ passing ability has notably improved in his senior season. He leads the SEC in passing touchdowns (26) and passing efficiency (152.6). Dobbs will have a chance to boost his NFL Draft profile after the season at UT’s Pro Day and in the NFL combine.
