Josh Heupel was frustrated with the officiating in Tennessee’s loss against Alabama on Saturday.

In his press conference after the game, Heupel took a long pause after a question about if he thought the game was one sided in its officiating before answering with, “Next question, yeah? Is that long enough silence?”

After the reaction made its rounds on social media, someone who both Tennessee and Alabama fans are familiar with came to Heupel’s defense.

Lane Kiffin, who coached in Tennessee’s narrow 12-10 loss to Alabama in 2009, backed Heupel up on social media after seeing the video.

“I love this reaction,” Kiffin said in his post. “Been in that same press conference in Orange in that same stadium. I know that feeling.”

While Vol fans certainly have their reservations when it comes to Kiffin, they certainly are happy to see the former Tennessee coach back up their current head coach after the controversial officiating.

In the loss, Alabama had just one penalty called against it. Whether or not the officiating was actually one sided is up for interpretation, but Heupel certainly thinks so.
