The Boston Celtics picked Tennessee F Grant Williams in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft last week and followed that up by picking LSU PG Tremont Waters in the second round.

Now, the two former SEC stars are shipping up to Boston, where they’ll start their pro careers this fall (likely after trips to Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League).

On Monday, the Celtics held an introductory press conference for their new players, and as you can see below, Williams will wear the No. 40 jersey and Waters will wear No. 51:

Williams wore No. 2 at Tennessee, while Waters was No. 3 for LSU. For the Celtics, those numbers are both retired — No. 2 for legendary coach Red Auerbach and No. 3 for two-time champion Dennis Johnson.

Will No. 40 or No. 51 hang from the rafters in Boston someday? We’ll find out starting this summer.

UPDATE: Per Williams, it appears this may just be a temporary number for Summer League.
