Mark Matthews is an ultra-elite wide receiver prospect and one of the top overall recruits in the 2024 recruiting class. On Wednesday, he finalized a commitment to one SEC program.

After generating a host of major offers on the recruiting trail, Matthews set a group of finalists that included Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee and USC. In the end, the draw of Josh Heupel and the Vols’ offense landed the pledge from Matthews.

Matthews is listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds out of Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia. The 247 Sports Composite rates Matthews as a 5-star player, the No. 4 WR and the 13th overall prospect in the country for the 2024 recruiting class. His father — Lee Matthews — was a college basketball player for Siena.

Mark Matthews’ impact for Tennessee

With his commitment, Matthews immediately becomes the highest-ranked pledge for Josh Heupel’s program in the 2024 recruiting class. He is the first 5-star commitment for the Vols in the cycle.

The addition of Matthews brings Tennessee up to 17 commitments as things currently stand. That group is ranked 15th in the country (6th in the SEC) per the 247 Sports Team Composite.
