Maui Ahuna eligibility: Tennessee insider reports latest on NCAA situation
Maui Ahuna was a splash addition for Tennessee in the NCAA transfer portal. The star transfer from Kansas, though, has yet to play for the Volunteers this season. Trey Wallace of OutKick reports that Ahuna’s transfer is the subject of an NCAA inquiry regarding potential tampering. Coaches in multiple sports have publicly alleged that tampering occurs with players entering and leaving the transfer portal. Alleged tampering has produced even more headlines in the NIL era.
The inquiry began in July 2022, a month after Ahuna announced his decision, per OutKick. The 2023 college baseball season had its Opening Day a week ago, and Ahuna was absent from Tennessee’s lineup. So far, without Ahuna, the Vols are 3-2 in 2023. Ahuna hit .396 with 8 home runs and 48 RBI in 53 games last season.
UT hosts Dayton for a 3-game series beginning Friday, and there’s a chance Ahuna could join the lineup.
Also, we should hear from NCAA regarding Maui VERY soon. This has been going on for a while, could see him tonight

First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 4:30 p.m. ET. The series is being streamed on SEC Network+.

Sports betting in Tennessee officially launched on November 1, 2020, and many of the largest sportsbooks are live and operating in the volunteer state. Tennessee is only one of a handful of SEC football states with legalized sports betting.
Probably a lot of tampering going on, if it’s being done in baseball. I’m not pointing a finger, just a general comment.
OK OK we will forfeit our first 2 games…
Why would we forfeit our 1st 2 games? He didn’t participate in any game this season.
Tongue in cheek marine. We lost our first two…
Show me any college/university that doesn’t tamper in the portal. You know, the one they haven’t figured out how to make it work.
