Nick Saban spoke about Tennessee’s defensive prowess during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday.

Saban was very impressed with how the Vols performed on that end of the field in their win over Oklahoma last week. He went as far as to say its one of the most underrated units in the entire country.

“I think Tennessee’s defense is probably one of the most underrated units in college football,” Saban said. “Because we talk about the offense, we talk about Nico, we talk about all that stuff … but their defense is the real deal. And they played really well in the last game and I think the good thing about having a defense is, people say it all the time, ‘defense travels.’ Even when you play on the road, you can play good on defense.”

Here’s video of Saban’s comments:

That’s high praise coming from Saban, who has engineered some of the top defenses that college football has seen over the last 2+ decades.

Tennessee’s defense completely shutdown Oklahoma’s offense in Norman last week. The Vols forced Jackson Arnold out of the game after he committed a trio of first-half turnovers.

Tennessee is off in Week 5, but will be looking to continue its defensive excellence next week on the road against Arkansas.
