Butch Jones’ head coaching job is hanging by a thread in Knoxville.

Following another disappointing loss at home, Jones’ seat is absolutely scorching. Will Muschamp improved to 6-0 over Tennessee during his career.

Paul Finebaum joined SportsCenter Sunday morning to discuss Jones’ job status.

“They had three field goals compared to the previous games,” Finebaum said. “I think that’s a step forward. Right now, if you’re a Tennessee fan, you’re punching your phone every two seconds to see if Butch Jones has been fired. The rumor mill is turning. They’re a 35-point underdog Saturday to Alabama.”

Finebaum then jabbed Jones, “How are you 0-for-Will Muschamp in your career?”

Booger McFarland said at this point it’s not “if” Jones will get fired, but when.

Ouch.

Late Saturday night, SEC Network’s Gene Chizik encouraged Tennessee fans. Chizik said that the Vols could have easily laid down, but the team actually showed fight and heart and had a chance to win it at the end. Chizik knows exactly how Jones is feeling at this moment.

We argued Saturday that Jones shouldn’t be fired right now ahead of the Alabama game.

It will be an interesting week on Rocky Top.
