Former Tennessee QB Peyton Manning will be back in front of the television cameras on Friday.

The Indianapolis Colts, which drafted Manning and were home to his first 14 NFL seasons, have called a joint press conference with Manning and team owner Jim Irsay.

Manning announced his retirement earlier this month with a heartfelt presser in Denver, where he played the final four seasons of his career.

During his message there he went out of his way to mention his time with the Colts and the people that were special to him in Indianapolis.

So what’s the reason for this additional press conference?

It appears to simply be a chance for Indianapolis to celebrate one of its all-time greats, according to sources close to the situation.

But for those wondering what Manning plans to do now that his playing career is over, a chance to smooth out the relationship with the owner that decided to let him go and draft Andrew Luck, while also re-introducing Manning to the city’s media does make one wonder if this isn’t laying the foundation for something more.

Manning has been rumored to be a candidate to take an NFL front office role, perhaps in a path similar to fellow former Broncos QB John Elway.

Let the speculation begin.
