Peyton Manning: I won't be coaching Vols
Peyton Manning reportedly told attendees of a Nashville awards ceremony that he will not be coaching the Volunteers in any way this fall, shooting down a popular rumor.
Manning was speaking at the Middle Tennessee Sports Awards, which recognized more than 150 student-athletes, when he addressed some of his post-retirement plans.

It makes sense that there were no shakeups on Butch Jones’ staff order to create an opening for Manning on coach . The next time a UT assistant leaves, however, one can imagine Manning’s name will come up in connection to filling the vacancy.
For now, it looks like Manning will enjoy watching the Volunteers as a fan. We think he’ll enjoy pulling for Team 120 from the couch.
Love having him on the sidelines for big games. Nobody actually thought that he was going to take a college coaching job 4 months after winning the SB and retiring. If he is going to consider coaching at all it would be at least a year or two down the line.
Sds thought he would be the coach apparently since they’re the ones that started the rumor in the first place.
Those “Tennessee rumors” though
SDS didn’t start the rumors… The article in which they first reported the possibility didn’t even make it sound like it was a rumor that he’d join, and two they cited a tweet from a separate sports reporter (I believe with Fox).
I said from the begining he would retire spend a year or two with his family then he will get the itch again and thats. When i hope he starts coaching.
Not really surprising. This doesn’t foreclose the possibility that he coaches in the future, and if he wants to coach, I think the Vols is the natural starting point for his coaching career. He says he doesn’t, but he’s so passionate about the game and sharing that with people is something he loves. He wouldn’t be good at it? Pssh, the thousands of kids that go to his camps probably say otherwise. The WRs and backup QBs he’s worked with say otherwise.
He never wanted to jump right into coaching or something else. He wants to enjoy time with his family for a bit, and I don’t blame him. But I expect him to be involved in football again, either as a coach or commentator, and I think he’s more likely to become a coach. I can see him with the Vols coaching staff in the future.
Peyton will be Tennessee’s HGH consultant and supplier.
Enjoy another sub-500 season and subsequent coaching search. Don’t break your grandma’s TV when Tennessee hangs 50+ on Sucky for a third straight year.
UK has beat UT five times in the past fifty years and only once in the past thirty…stfu.
I never entertained the thought of Manning coaching one year after retiring..
