Peyton Manning’s joke about Kevin Durant at the 2017 ESPYs returned this year.

In 2017, Manning hosted the ESPYs and cracked a joke about Durant joining the Golden State Warriors and it made many headlines during that time. The joke was revisited on Wednesday’s show when there was a segment of Stephen Curry talking to Manning on a video call. Manning gave Curry permission to use that joke about Durant once again (Via AL.com):

“When I hosted the ESPYs five years ago, I made a little quip about Kevin Durant wanting to play for a great team that made a lot of headlines,” Manning said. “Feel free to use that one because it hasn’t aged a day.”

While Curry was receiving advice from previous hosts of the show, he jokingly dismissed Manning’s idea about recycling the infamous joke from five years ago.

Coincidentally, the original joke re-surfaced on Twitter before Wednesday’s show and Durant responded. Durant did not find the joke funny.

“If it was funny, I would’ve laughed,” Durant said. “It’s a simple concept.”

Durant made that response nearly 10 hours before the ESPYs aired. When Manning first made the joke about Durant, it made big news and five years later, the joke remained alive after the bit between Manning and Curry.
