About this time last offseason, ESPN was heavily pursuing former Tennessee QB Peyton Manning to join the Monday Night Football broadcast booth.

Manning would have replaced Jon Gruden, who left to coach the Oakland Raiders, but that gig went to another former Vol instead — ex-Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten.

Now that Witten is returning to the NFL, though, the MNF booth again has an opening. Per The Hollywood Reporter, ESPN is trying to get Manning into the booth again this offseason:

ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro and content chief Connor Schell made a trip to Denver on March 11 to meet with Manning, who has been mentioned before for a broadcast role. But it’s unclear whether Manning is interested in pursuing a career as an analyst at this time. He’s done some player breakdowns for the ESPN+ plus show Detail. He’s also a successful television pitchman, showing off some comedic chops in spots for Nationwide Insurance, Papa John’s and Mastercard.

Manning would be great in the booth, but in the past, he hasn’t seemed interested in coming out of retirement. With all the money he’s made, that’s certainly an understandable attitude from him.

However, there’s always a chance he’ll want to get back in the game, so we’ll see if ESPN’s efforts are successful this time around.
