The Tennessee Volunteers are continuing to search for a new football coach, and have now turned the job over to new AD Phillip Fulmer, who is busy trying to find Butch Jones’s replacement.

It’s possible a hire could come as soon as this week, but Fulmer will do his best to make sure the next Tennessee coach is the right one for the program.

According to John Brice of Gridiron Now, the Vols are now considering two more big-name candidates for the position — Washington’s Chris Petersen and Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt:

Per sources with direct knowledge of the proceedings, Fulmer’s next round of talks is set to include, but not be limited to, Washington’s Chris Petersen and Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Whether or not either of those candidates lands the position remains to be seen, but Fulmer will likely thoroughly vet both of them in the coming days.

The more the search drags on, though, the more Vol Nation gets restless, so Fulmer will need to act quickly to appease the growing unrest in Knoxville.
