Jeremy Pruitt’s staff has a new opening.

Austin Price of VolQuest is reporting that Tennessee inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer is leaving to join Joe Judge’s New York Giants. Judge and Sherrer worked together at Alabama during the 2010 and ’11 seasons.

Sherrer was on staff at Georgia from 2014-17 as outside linebackers coach before he left UGA to join Pruitt’s Volunteers staff. Sherrer held the title of defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the 2018 season (while Chris Rumph was co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach). Pruitt demoted Sherrer from the coordinator position for the 2019 season, bringing in Derrick Ansley to be the new defensive coordinator.

This past season, Sherrer held the titles of inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. UT’s special teams came through in the Gator Bowl with arguably the play of the season, recovering a key onside kick.

Judge appears to be placing a premium on ties to the SEC and/or Saban for his Giants staff. He has also hired former Alabama running backs coach Burton Burns and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett (a Saban staffer with the Miami Dolphins).
