Report: Tennessee linebacker, a former 4-star recruit, enters NCAA transfer portal
The Tennessee Volunteers continue to be plagued by players entering the NCAA transfer portal.
OL Wanya Morris, LB Henry To’o To’o and RB Eric Gray, among others, have left the program after coach Jeremy Pruitt’s firing.
On Monday night, the hits continued. Per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, former 4-star LB J.J. Peterson has become the latest Vol to enter the transfer portal:
Have learned that Tennessee linebacker J.J. Peterson has entered the transfer portal. Former top recruit.

Peterson was the top recruit in the Vols’ 2018 class. Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Peterson was the No. 3 outside linebacker in the class and the No. 7 overall recruit from the state of Georgia.
Peterson didn’t see any action in 2020. In 2018 and 2019 combined, he appeared in 17 games, recording a grand total of 12 tackles.
All these kids leaving proves to me that they are all smarter than they look. Good for them. I guess playing in a pizz hole stadium for pizz hole coaches and a pizz hole college gets a little too old for these dudes. Good luck
To me it’s indicative of today’s youth. They are selfish and don’t think about the team. They aren’t loyal to anything and run when things get too tough.
Big difference between “when things get tough” and self-inflicted wounds that come time after time at Rocky-Top. These athletes have a shelf-life. If the “adults” keep screwing up and now have expected sanctions coming why weren’t the “adults” LOYAL to the guys that came to play for them and kept the program out of trouble? If they have any hope of playing at the next level, these guys must look out for themselves at this point. The “adults” made a clown show out of what should have been a Div 1 football program.
Good luck to those who are leaving. They deserve it having stuck around that has been program called Tennessee.
They do indeed have a shelf life and they also made a commitment.
They are also part of a team.
Since 2000 Clemson has had 84 NFL draft picks. Tennessee has had 82, so if you are talented, you will still get scouted.
Society is in a sad state when this kind of disloyalty is celebrated and justified.
And coaches use to stay and not bounce quickly either. The game has become about the money. Why was Danny White hired? He’s outsourced the coaching selection process. He’s a fantastic fund raiser. And why wouldn’t you expect the youth to be disloyal? Weren’t some swayed my what was in the Mickey-D bag? I’m not rooting for it, just preparing for if and when it hits my program. Eli Drinkwitz hasn’t been anywhere for more than 2 years. I hope he’s found a home but if he hasn’t I won’t be surprised, just disappointed.
I miss you so much. I miss your smell, mainly.
I would at least wait until the new coach is hired before deciding to bail. Having said that, it is their decision. Peterson never really panned out, so maybe going somewhere else will give him a fresh start and he can succeed.
It’s all such a shame.
No it’s not, UT has earned the crap that is happening to them.. Until they learn to quit pining for the past and Peyton, etc.. this is they’re fate.
“until they learn to quit pining for the past and Peyton, etc”? WTH, lol. Are you mad that bball season is not going as planned?
Just love how these delusional Tenn fans always try to deflect the conversation away from the topic of the disaster their football program is.
Agreed. They have brought this on themselves. Don’t feel
Sorry for them in the least
Yep, but it has nothing to do with Peyton or the past. But a lot to do with Pruitt, Jones, Dooley.
He hardly saw the field. A bit of a disappointment compared to the hype coming out of high school.
No surprise here and probably not related to the firing of Pruitt. He was pretty much off the team in October or November, if I remember correctly. Shame – he was a Top 50 recruit nationally. I never read or heard what kept him from living up to his potential.
Lazy.
JJ was a total bust. Hail & Farwell.
A good coach always tries to do what is best for his players and parents try and help guide their children to make smart decisions. But with this current dumpster fire I would advise any future NFL talent to look for better opportunities. UT is on life support and players should not waste their future on the chance that UT will get it right this time
Peterson stirred the Gatorade. C’mon People; some real news—Please.
