The Tennessee Volunteers just made a big-time addition to their 2018 recruiting class, and they did it at the expense of an SEC East rival.

According to Volquest.com, former South Carolina commit Bryce Thompson, a 4-star athlete who plays receiver and defensive back, is now officially enrolled at Tennessee.

Thompson was committed to the Gamecocks, but informed them just before National Signing Day that he wouldn’t be signing with them. Instead, he’s now heading to Tennessee.

Thompson told VolQuest that he’d prefer to play receiver, but will do whatever the team needs him to do:

“They told me I could playe either receiver or defensive back,” Thompson said of his role with the Vols.

“Definitely special teams, but they said I should make an impact early as along as I come in and do what I’m supposed to do. I want to start at receiver first, but if they want me to go do DB then I will.”

According to the 247Sports composite, Thompson is the No. 12 athlete in the class of 2018 and the No. 5 overall player from the state of South Carolina.
