Report: Tennessee WR, former 4-star recruit, no longer with team
Tennessee appears to be down a returning wide receiver.
Multiple outlets, including Rivals, are reporting that Malachi Wideman is no longer a member of the team. The reports do not state why Wideman is no longer a member of Josh Heupel’s squad. His status with Rick Barnes’ basketball team is not directly addressed.
Out of Venice (Florida), Wideman was rated 4-stars and the No. 117 football prospect in the class of 2020 on the 247Sports Composite. He picked up 15 scholarship offers and committed to the Volunteers over Ole Miss and Oregon.
Wideman played in six games for the Vols in 2020, registering a 24-yard catch in the Kentucky game. The Rivals report mentions that Wideman was in a black no-contact jersey for the entirety of 2021 spring practice.
