Tennessee has a 23-7 lead at halftime against LSU at Tiger Stadium.

The Volunteers jumped in front right after the opening kickoff, which was fumbled by Jack Bech to put the visitors in excellent field position. They found themselves with a 7-0 lead less than 75 seconds into the game.

After a pair of field goals to go up 13-0, the Vols had the ball back after a Tigers 4th-and-1 attempt at their own 46 went for a loss of 1. Hendon Hooker promptly delivered a 45-yard strike to Jalin Hyatt as Tennessee opened up a 20-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter.

The Vols’ performance has been everything their fans hoped for on the road in Death Valley, outside of being forced to punt inside LSU’s 40 later in the 2nd and a missed 50-yard field goal with less than a minute remaining, which Chase McGrath partially atoned for with a 32-yard make as the half expired. If they had cashed in on a few more opportunities, this game would have been well out of reach.

That said, If Alabama takes care of business against Texas A&M, and if the Vols can step on the gas in the 2nd half (they get the ball first), it’s possible that we could be looking at a Top 5 showdown in front of a raucous Neyland Stadium crowd in Week 7.

As you might imagine, Tennessee has received plenty of social media reaction thanks to its play in Baton Rouge:
