SEC fans troll Tennessee after Josh Heupel praises team's 'approach walking up the stairs'
Derek Dooley once talked about instructing his Tennessee squad how to properly shower (in the context of the team dealing with staph infections). Now that they’ve mastered showering, the Vols are onto stairs.
In a press conference clip going viral on SEC Twitter, current UT head coach Josh Heupel told reporters, “I love this team’s effort and energy. The way they’ve learned how to approach walking up the stairs and going to meetings…”

The video tweeted by @VolBlood found its way from Vol Twitter to the rest of SEC Twitter. Vols fans and rivals alike had plenty of fun with the out-of-context clip:

We are back. Everyone knows the fundamentals of football start with being good at walking up stairs. https://t.co/qFEml2c4QQ

The clip is just 6 seconds of a longer answer. Here is Heupel’s full answer, from the GoVols247 press conference transcript:
ON IF HE LIKES WHERE HIS TEAM IS RIGHT NOW
“Yeah, as a coach, you’re never where you want to be, right? As a coach, you always see the things you have to continue to improve on. I love this team’s effort and energy. The way they’ve learned how to approach walking up the stairs and going to meetings, being consistent in those competitive behaviors that you’ve got to have. During the course of training camp, through summer, throughout spring ball, we’ve gotten better. I think our first day of full pads in spring ball, to where we are today, we’ve continued to grow. We are unfinished. You’re always continuing to push forward. But I like this group of guys, man. They care about themselves and their teammates. They care about representing the state of Tennessee the right way.”
