South Carolina could become next 'Champions of Life' on Sept. 2
“Champions of Life” appears to be a motto that will forever stick with Butch Jones.
Since Jones dubbed his team life champions last November, the outside media attention has not let up. It’s been embarrassing for Tennessee.
And it isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s going to be as popular as Derek Dooley’s orange pants and Phillip Fulmer’s love of Krispy Kreme.
Jones on this senior class: “They’ve won the biggest championship – that’s the championship of life”

SB Nation created a “Champions of Life” belt, and it will track the belt’s movement all season.
Because Tennessee immediately lost to Vanderbilt after dubbing itself “life champions,” it passed that mantra on to the Commodores. Of course, passing it on doesn’t completely remove it from Tennessee (though many Vol fans would love for it to go away).
Vanderbilt subsequently lost to NC State in the Independence Bowl, making the Wolfpack the current life champions.
So far, every time a team received the “belt,” it has lost. But as the article points out:
“The rules are simple: If you beat the current Life Champ, you become the Life Champ. That gives the belt a chance to traverse the entire country in one season.”
What an awful, yet somehow charming thing this is.
Jones, who is 0-5 against Will Muschamp, may have finally found a way to get revenge. NC State plays South Carolina in Charlotte on Sept. 2.
Good luck, Gamecocks.
