The Tennessee Volunteers are a disappointing 3-5 on the season and are an abysmal 0-5 in SEC play.

That has coach Butch Jones in hot water, as rumors about his imminent firing are swirling and it is highly unlikely that he’ll return as coach in 2018.

However, Tennessee AD John Currie has been quiet about the coaching rumors so far, and Jones has said he feels he has Currie’s support.

On Thursday, though, Currie told reporters that the Vols’ 0-5 start to SEC play is not acceptable, before adding that he’s solely focused on this weekend’s game against Southern Miss (via 247Sports):

“Certainly I understand our fan frustration,” Currie said. “We’re not where we want to be. It’s unacceptable to be 0-5 in the Southeastern Conference, but we are where we are. As I said Monday night, our focus is on our student-athletes, and I know that’s what Coach Jones is thinking about right now, is getting our team ready to play Saturday.

“I think about Kendal Vickers, from Havelock, North Carolina, who came west four or five years ago, who played his heart out on Saturday night last week. He’s got three more chances to play in Neyland Stadium. I know we’ll have a lot of great fans there on Saturday supporting our student-athletes. That’s our tradition.”

The Vols host Southern Miss at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.
