Tennessee adds former FCS tight end with Pac-12 experience from transfer portal
Tennessee on Wednesday added to its tight end ranks as a West Coast product will head to the Volunteer State from the transfer portal.
McCallan Castles, formerly at UC Davis, has committed to Tennessee. He revealed the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
Castles was a former 3-star recruit and was considered among the top 20 tight ends in the class of 2018. He originally signed with Cal and was on the Golden Bears roster for 2 seasons before transferring.
In UC Davis’ spring season in 2021, he was the team’s 2nd-leading receiver in both catches and yards. That fall, he was again 2nd on the team in receiving yards. In 2022, he made 30 grabs for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns.
“The SEC offers the best talent, and obviously it is good to play against high-level guys, but getting to practice beside high-level guys every day is something I think is going to happen at Tennessee,” he told Volunteer Country’s Matt Ray. “I think the way Coach (Josh) Heupel uses his offense…is going to maximize what I do best.”
Very excited to announce my commitment to Tennessee! #GBO? pic.twitter.com/K67pBjTy4Q
