Tennessee announces number changes for 4 key players
When it comes to college football jersey numbers, there’s a lot of consideration that goes into what each player will wear.
Unlike the NFL, with smaller rosters, college football often has players wearing the same jersey numbers, which is OK as long as they don’t take the field at the same time.
That still leads to some confusion with special teams, though, so on Friday, the Tennessee Volunteers announced four players were changing numbers:

Tennessee has some number changes.
– TE Dominick Wood-Anderson is going from 18 to 4.
– LB Jonathan Kongbo is going from 1 to 99.
– RB Ty Chandler is going from 3 to 8.
– WR Josh Palmer is going from 5 to 84.Mostly for special team reasons.

All of those players are expected to contribute in big ways this fall, and now they’ll do so in new jerseys.
How it affects special teams units, though, remains to be seen.
