Tennessee baseball has addressed one of its biggest offseason needs less than a week following the end of the season.
Former NC State catcher Cannon Peebles committed to Tony Vitello and Tennessee out of the transfer portal Tuesday night, per his personal Twitter account.

“Massive” is an understatement. Peebles had a fantastic freshman season with the Wolfpack, hitting .352 with a .697 slugging percentage and a .456 on-base percentage. He tied for first on the team with 50 RBI, also hitting 12 home runs (2nd on the team) in 142 at-bats.
Peebles is Tennessee’s 2nd transfer commitment of the offseason, joining former Jacksonville State pitcher AJ Causey.
He also provides some much-needed stability at catcher, a position of weakness for Tennessee, especially offensively. Routine Vols starter Cal Stark had a solid freshman campaign for Tennessee behind the plate in 2023. As a hitter, it’s a bit of a different story. Peebles’ bat alone makes the Vols better, instantly.
Stark batted just .180 this season at the bottom of a Tennessee lineup that played well during the back half of the SEC schedule, but struggled in the NCAA Tournament.
