Tennessee baseball has now won 11 in a row after dropping their first 2 games of the season.
The Vols completed a sweep of a Gonzaga team that is better than its record shows, downing the Zags 17-9 Sunday. RHP Bryce Jenkins earned the W for Tennessee (1-0) while Gonzaga’s Nate Deschryver fell to 0-2 on the season.
The top of the lineup fared well for Tennessee Sunday. The Vols’ first 5 batters drove in 13 runs, with Christian Moore having perhaps the most complete day at the plate. He totaled a pair of hits in 3 at-bats with 2 RBI and a home run. Jared Dickey and Maui Ahuna each drove in 4 runs of their own.

Is Tennessee as dominant as their ranking suggests?
No. 2 Tennessee baseball isn’t beating ranked opponents day in and day out, but stringing together 11 wins in college baseball is impressive on its own. Gonzaga has started their season in perhaps the most difficult way possible, travelling to Lubbock and Phoenix to drop games to No. 24 Texas Tech and Grand Canyon, which is off to a strong start to the year.
The Vols have also returned some talent to the lineup, strengthening their legitimacy. kansas transfer Maui Ahuna made his Tennessee debut last week against Charleston Southern and Griffin Merritt is rounding into form after missing the first 2 games of the year with a suspension. And they aren’t just beating their opposition – the Vols have outscored opponents 108-20 since losing their first 2 games of the year to Arizona and Grand Canyon.
Tennessee is back in action Tuesday against Boston College before next weekend’s series against Morehead State.
