Tennessee baseball locks up second straight SEC East title in runaway fashion
Thanks to Vanderbilt’s win over Georgia on Sunday, Tennessee secured its second straight SEC East title, as the Vols continue to place some distance between them and the rest of the SEC.
The Vols have sights beyond the SEC Tournament, but this is another in a long line of accomplishments for the No. 1 team in the land. Arkansas lost to Auburn on Saturday, but was leading on Sunday, and depending how the rest of the regular season shakes out, Tennessee will have at least a three-game lead over Arkansas in overall SEC standings heading into the Vols’ final 6 SEC games.
Tennessee on Saturday salvaged a game in Kentucky thanks to the pitching duo of Drew Beam and Redmond Walsh, who held the Wildcats to 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits while the Tennessee offense rang up 7 runs on 9 hits, including 2 homers to end a bit of an offensive drought.
Offense has been a theme all season. For the first time in program history, Tennessee has had 6 players hit double-digit dingers in a season.
Vandy just beat Georgia, so Tennessee has clinched a second consecutive SEC East title.#Vols also will be at least four games up in the overall SEC standings with six games to play.
