Tennessee added one of the best shooters in the country to its 2024-25 roster on Friday evening.
The Vols landed a commitment from transfer guard Chaz Lanier, who spent the previous 4 years at North Florida. Lanier broke out in 2023-24, averaging 19.7 points per game.

Lanier was a role player for North Florida for his first 3 years on campus, but became one of the country’s most efficient scorers in 2023-24. He was exceptional from 3-point range, making 44% of his shots from that area on a volume of 7.5 attempts per game.
While the jump from North Florida to the SEC will be significant, Lanier figures to be a major part of Tennessee’s offense next season. He’s expected to slot in as a starter in the Vols’ back court in 2024-25.
Lanier is a good athlete who will bring a unique skillset to Knoxville. Lanier was the only player in the country last season to record more than 95 made 3-pointers and more than 20 dunks. He did so with an elite true shooting percentage for a guard — 66.2%.
Lanier is the latest addition to a star-studded transfer recruiting class for Tennessee. He joins former Hofstra forward Darlinstone Dubar, former Ohio State center Felix Opara and former Charlotte center Igor Milic Jr. as transfers who have committed to the Vols this offseason.
Tennessee is currently +4000 to win the national championship next season, according to the latest odds from FanDuel. That ranks 4th amongst SEC programs, trailing only Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas.
