It’s been a rough year for the Tennessee Volunteers and coach Butch Jones, to say the least.

Coming off a 41-0 home loss to Georgia on Saturday, though, things are at an all-time low for the embattled coach.

Still, on Tuesday, Jones said no one has been tougher on his performance than he is, adding that he’s his own worst critic (via 247Sports):

“When you watch the game, you always look at it as your worst critic,” he said. “It’s, you know, what could you have done better in this situation. Sometimes I’ll refer back to practice — you know, how many times did we rep that particular defense or that particular play? Did we put our players in positions to succeed? You know, game management-type things, style of play, demands, sideline etiquette, all that.

“I always approach it as I’m my own worst critic, and we take great pride in that, and that’s another whole entire area with our style of play, that we’ve done such a good job in the past.

“And we need to get back to our style of play and our expectations of Tennessee football.”

If things don’t turn around soon, Jones’s worst critic may end up being AD John Currie, who may be forced to fire him.

For now, though, Jones is the Vols’ coach and he needs a big win when the team returns to action next weekend against South Carolina.
