Tennessee DL details Vols' players-only meeting ahead of Florida game
Tennessee players are making sure the team is properly focused heading into its first SEC game of the 2023 season.
UT defensive lineman Omari Thomas confirmed on Tuesday that the Volunteers held a players-only meeting on Sunday as focus shifted to the Florida game.
“What we talked about in there, we just talked about how we just got to continue to approach the week,” Thomas told reporters. “We can’t change our preparation, we know it’s a big game, first SEC game of the year. It’s a rivalry game. We just didn’t need to change what we do. We approach it like we do any other day. Come in, have fun and ready to work. That was really the main thing, just continuing to grow together and just have that players meeting.
“It was a great meeting for us just because it allowed everybody to see that we all have the same page, flush the game that happened, and let’s just continue to go work this week.”
Thomas is one of Tennessee’s defensive leaders. Last season, he started all 13 games at defensive tackle as a junior, recording 26 tackles. This season, Thomas has logged 5 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, in 2 games.
The Vols are looking to get to 3-0 with a win over Florida on Saturday. The rivalry clash is set for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in Gainesville, airing on ESPN.
