Tennessee fans take exception to John Chavis's Kyle Field comments
Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis spent a long time with the Tennessee Volunteers, both as a player and a coach.
This Saturday, Chavis’s Aggies will welcome the Vols to College Station in one of the SEC’s marquis Week 6 matchups.
On Tuesday, Chavis compared Kyle Field’s atmosphere to Neyland Stadium’s, giving his current school the edge:
John Chavis on Kyle Field: I’ve never been in a stadium that comes alive like this one at Texas A&M.

Needless to say, The Chief’s comments did not go over well with fans of his alma mater, prompting many to tweet their feelings about his opinion:
@3HL1045 @billyliucci maybe if he could have stopped a team on third down he would have seen Neyland come alive

.@JCrack75 @3HL1045 @billyliucci @GoVolsBlondie I love it when players/coaches trash talk #Vols works out so well for them on game day

The Aggies and Volunteers square off at 3:30 p.m. Central time. The game can be seen on CBS.
Eh, don’t see the problem. Everyone knows the best job in the world is the one you have when it’s a public position. What’s he supposed to say, “Kyle Field doesn’t measure up to Neyland “??? That’d be like telling your current wife how good a cook your ex was and she doesn’t come close. No sane man would do that, even if it were true. Lol.
Agree. He’s making millions down there. Why would he say anything to throw barbs at his current place of employment?
I don’t really see why he’s making the comment, what did a media person ask him for him to say that. If it’s something that he just came out and said it’s really strange. I can tell you that I’ve been to Neyland Stadium once and I’ve never heard it that loud…I don’t know about this coming alive stuff…but it was damm loud. A&M has always been more like a party with they’re fans and the bonefire and all, probably a lot of drinking too with those bucket headed texans.
Nice personal attacks
Yep, this is much ado about nothing. What did they expect the opposing coach to say? “Our fan turnout on game day sucks. I wish we had a home crowd like they do at Tennessee. ” That sounds like something West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen would say, not Chief.
I think Tennessee has the advantage here. They know him and know that he is a fourth-quarter prevent coordinator. That’s followed him everywhere he’s gone. When things get close or when things get tight, Chavis goes in to prevent. If Tennessee is a true second-half team and Texas A&M is in prevent, it could get wild again in Vol Nation.
Thats a good point actually…very good point
How is this a good point? None of the staff or players have ever coached with or played for him. His history of being a Vol is completely irrelevant to the matchup or strategy on the field this Saturday.
It’s a good point in the fact that Chavis, regardless of who at UT personally knows him or was here when he was, knows that his general defensive strategy has stayed the same from when he was at UT, LSU, and now at TAMU. He plays prevent defense. It’s what he does. Other teams know it too. But Tennessee, the way this team is built, is particularly well equipped to attack that.
you realize he switches to prevent right if his team has a big lead? Tennessee hasnt played a team with an offense that has a pulse if A&M gets up big itll be rough for Tennessee to get back in it.
I don’t know about Neyland, but Death Valley certainly comes to life more and is more intimidating than Kyle Field.
But I totally get why chavis said kyle field is best
He is certainly entitled to his opinion! If that is what he feels, what is the big deal?
Is he supposed to say Neyland is the best in the land? I think not, TAM signs his paychecks now…
Kyle field is probably the second most feared place in the SEC behind Neyland. This will be by far our toughest test this season.
Lol no. Bryant-Denny is most feared, simply because of the home team there… Neyland is probably the one that opponents are most worried about because of how disruptive the crowd is. But no one wants to play Bama at home, not so much because of the crowd, but because it’s Bama…
He’d say the same about Death Valley if he were still at LSU, or about Neyland if he were still at UT. He’s employed. He’s not gonna say some other stadium is better than where he’s at currently. I think he’s very, very wrong, and others here think so too, but it’s an opinion.
Seriously…. as if Mike DeBord remembers all the times we blew it on a 3rd and Chavis with Fulmer at the helm…
Come on guys, this staff was coaching games in various places in the state of Michigan the last time Chavis blew a big game at Tennessee.lol
Chavis shot his mouth off last year, saying he couldn’t wait to walk into Tiger Stadium as an Aggie…….LSU made him pay for that comment.
So you are saying your offense won that game?
