Tennessee has taken the college football world by storm in 2024.
Most expected the Vols to compete in 2024, but not many expected the team to perform as well as they have through 2 weeks. After defeating previously No. 24 NC State 51-10 in Week 2, the Vols are early favorites over Oklahoma in Week 4.
Per FanDuel, the Vols are 2.5-point favorites over the Sooners in the lookahead market. The total for this game has been set at 61.5.
Norman is a notoriously tough place to play, so the Vols being favored shows that sportsbooks are impressed by the team.
Of course, this game is over a week away and both teams have to play another game before it. Josh Heupel and the Vols are welcoming Kent State to town in Week 3 and are favored by 49.5 over the Golden Flashes, per FanDuel. While a loss seems unlikely, even a close victory by the Vols could make the team underdogs against Oklahoma.
The same could be said for Oklahoma. The Sooners are taking on Tulane in Week 3 and are favored by 13.5 points. In Week 2, the Sooners struggled against the lowly Houston Cougars, winning by just 4 points. If the Sooners fall to Tulane or barely eke out a win, the 2.5-point spread could increase significantly before lines are updated on Sunday.
It will be interesting to see how these teams perform in Week 3 ahead of their highly-anticipated Week 4 matchup. Whoever wins this battle could be end up fighting for a spot in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.
