Tennessee is reportedly adding a non-conference opponent to the schedule for 2024.

According to a report by Kevin Kelley with FB Schedules, Tennessee will host Kent State out of the MAC on Saturday, Sept. 14 in the 2024 season. Kelley also reported that the Volunteers will pay the Golden Flashes a $1.35 million guarantee for the contest.

That contest would bring Tennessee’s non-conference slate for 2024 to 3 games with contests against Oklahoma and UTEP on the schedule, though OU will be joining the SEC. The Volunteers are also scheduled to play Mississippi State and Alabama as SEC West crossover games during 2024.

Kent State and Tennessee have never met before on the football field. The Golden Flashes finished the season 7-7 with a loss in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Tennessee wrapped up Josh Heupel’s first season with the program with a 7-6 record and a Music City Bowl appearance vs. Purdue. Even with the loss to the Boilermakers, Heupel appears to have the program on a solid trajectory entering 2022.
