A Tennessee graduate is reportedly returning home to help Josh Heupel with Vols recruiting.

247Sports reported this weekend that Billy High is headed home to Knoxville after 3 seasons at North Carolina. High’s title at UNC was assistant athletic director and general manager. Ryan Callahan’s 247Sports report states High will have a similar role at UT.

North Carolina defined High’s role as overseeing recruiting evaluations and operations, on-campus recruiting and all other recruiting activities. The Tar Heels have recruited well since Mack Brown’s return to Chapel Hill. UNC’s 2022 class is currently No. 8 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC on the 247Sports Composite ahead of next month’s National Signing Day. North Carolina had top-15 Composite classes in 2020 and 2021.

A Knoxville native, High was a recruiting intern at Tennessee, getting his start in 2009. He received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UT in 2012 and a master’s degree in teacher education in 2015. After graduating, High was an assistant coach at the Christian Academy of Knoxville for 4 years.

High also held a recruiting staffing role at Auburn in 2017 and 2018. Charlie High, Billy’s brother, is director of offensive scouting on Heupel’s UT staff.
