Tennessee reportedly releases another 2021 signee from National Letter of Intent
Another Tennessee 2021 signee is reportedly looking for a new home.
Ryan Calahan of 247Sports reports, per sources, that offensive lineman J’Marion Gooch has been released from his National Letter of Intent signed with Tennessee.
A Gallatin (Tennessee) High School student, Gooch was listed at over 6-7, 358 pounds and rated 3-stars, the No. 14 recruit in the state, No. 51 offensive tackle and No. 628 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. Callahan notes that Gooch spent his junior and senior seasons at The King’s Academy in Seymour, Tennessee, before transferring back to Gallatin High School in November.
Gooch picked up 26 scholarship offers during his recruitment, including Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Carolina. He was pledged to the Gus Malzahn staff at Auburn from April 16, 2020, to Aug. 31, 2020, the date he flipped his commitment to UT. Gooch signed with Tennessee in December before Jeremy Pruitt’s firing.
The Gooch news follows recent releases of 4-star defensive end/linebacker Dylan Brooks and 4-star running back Cody Brown. Brooks committed to Auburn on Saturday.
I’d imagine he ends up at Auburn.
Or Oklahoma.
Hate to lose any commit, but given the new style of offense that UT will be running, I don’t know that a lineman of his build would be able to keep up. Can’t blame him for wanting out. Best of luck to him.
If you heard Alabama RT Evan Neal’s size, 6’7 360, you’d think the same, but he moves like someone 250. I watched incoming OL JC Latham, who is 6’6 and over 300 lbs this season in high school. The guy moves like a LB. Haven’t seen Gooch and you may be right, but there is no positive to losing recruits at this stage.
He has exactly the build that Pittman is looking for. I bet no one has a clue though were he might be leaning.
