Believe it or not, Tennessee is sending coaches down to Boca Raton to camp with FAU and new head coach Lane Kiffin. The South Florida school announced the presence of the unnamed Volunteer coaches Wednesday for a June 5 camp on FAU’s campus. Credit Tennessee for not letting its history with Kiffin get in the way of a perfectly good opportunity to scout and coach up potential elite south Florida recruits.

While coaches are not permitted to recruit during these events, they are useful to evaluate prospects and can help establish a connection for eventual recruiting purposes. FAU is expecting around 500 camp attendees for the event.

Tennessee won’t be the only Southeastern Conference school to send coaches to the camp, however, as Arkansas and Vanderbilt are expected to both have representatives on site. According to FAU, Razorback head coach Bret Bielema plans to make the trip for the camp.

Michigan is planning to send its entire coaching staff to the FAU camp, while Oregon and Illinois will also be in attendance.

In theory, having so many programs send coaches to FAU helps everyone involved. Coaches from around the nation get to evaluate local players in person, FAU gets to attract prospects to attend campus, and many prospects that may be unknown have a chance to peak interest which could lead to potential scholarship opportunities or visits from schools in attendance.

“The camp evaluation is huge for both sides because we get to evaluate (recruits) and they get to evaluate how we coach,” Kiffin said. “We’re in a constant battle every day trying to get kids to come to campus and to be in our camps.”

Who knows, should this camp help Tennessee land its next big South Florida recruit, Vol fans may finally have some gratitude to send Kiffin’s way.
