The Tennessee Volunteers will play the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.

Tennessee enters the New Year’s Day contest with an 8-4 mark (4-4 SEC). Josh Heupel’s team ended the 2022 season with an 11-2 record and a 31-14 Orange Bowl win over Clemson, but wasn’t quite able to maintain that momentum in 2023. They started the year No. 12 in the preseason polls and ended up dropping games to Florida, Alabama, Missouri, and Georgia. The Vols are bowling for the 3rd straight year, their longest stretch since a 3-year stretch from 2014-2016.

Meanwhile, Iowa is coming off a 26-0 loss to Michigan in the Big Ten Championship. Kirk Ferentz’s Hawkeyes are 10-3 (7-2 B1G) with losses to Penn State, Minnesota, and Michigan on Saturday. In last year’s Music City Bowl, the Hawkeyes defeated Kentucky 21-0.

The Citrus Bowl is scheduled for New Year’s Day at 1 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. It will be televised by ABC.
