Walk-off wins are celebrated at every level of baseball. Tennessee decided to double the fun on Sunday, winning Games 2 and 3 against LSU in the final at-bat to complete a series sweep.

Tennessee won Friday night’s series opener 3-1. Game 2 of the series started on Saturday night and was suspended in the top of the ninth inning with the Tigers leading 8-7 due to lightning and inclement weather in the area. With the game resumed, Drew Gilbert was the hero. The Vols were down to their final strike when Gilbert tied the game with a double to right field. In the 11th, Gilbert hit a game-winning solo shot that stood upon review, giving UT the 9-8 victory.

Before Gilbert’s heroics, it was all about Evan Russell. The senior had a 3-homer, 5-RBI game, tying a school record.

The second game of the day, Game 3 of the series, was shortened due to Sunday travel. Tennessee and LSU were tied 2-2 after seven innings and the game went to extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Luc Lipcius singled with two outs, bringing home Liam Spence for the 3-2 win, completing the sweep.

No. 9 Tennessee is now 21-4 on the season.
