Upset Saturday: Tennessee becomes 4th top-10 team to lose in Week 6
Upset Saturday is here for the 2024 season.
Tennessee is the latest victim in Week 6, falling to Arkansas 19-14 on Saturday night in Fayetteville. It’s a stunning loss for the No. 4 team in the country given how dominant they’ve been to this point in the season.
Arkansas took the lead with over a minute remaining, giving the Vols time to march down the field and potentially win the game. But the Razorbacks were able to get a stop in the final seconds of the game to earn one of their most memorable wins in recent program history.
However, Tennessee is far from the only team to lose in shocking fashion this weekend. No. 1 Alabama, No. 9 Missouri and No. 10 Michigan all lost this weekend. Teams outside the top-10 weren’t safe either, as No. 11 USC fell on the road at Minnesota. The Tide, Wolverines and Trojans all lost to unranked foes on Saturday.
There could be even more carnage this weekend as well — Tennessee’s loss came as No. 10 Miami was still battling Cal in the first half of that game.
Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon and Penn State are the only top-10 teams who have won this week (with the Miami result still pending). Each of those teams are likely poised to move up in the next iteration of the AP Top 25, which will be released on Sunday afternoon. The same could be said for Texas, who was idle in Week 6.
