Following Butch Jones’ announcement that Pig Howard was suspended for the season opener, Jones elaborated on two other receivers who are dealing with injury issues entering the season.

Jason Croom still hasn’t fully recovered from his injury suffered during bowl practice, and he’ll have his knee scoped Friday.

“It’s just to kind of see how the healing process is going for him,” Jones said during his press conference, via the Times Free Press. “I’ll know a little bit more on exactly where Jason is following the conclusion of the surgery on Friday.”

Freshman receiver Vincent Perry suffered a meniscus injury during Tuesday’s practice and will also undergo surgery on Friday.

“It was a non-contact drill. It was on air,” Jones said. “He just cut on the grass and just twisted his knee and went down.”

Jones went on to say that Marquez North is working his way back from his knee injury.. He also raved about Josh Malone’s maturity.

The Vols aren’t out of receiving options, but the group is banged up right now heading into the season.
