Video: Close up view of Preston Williams' controversial no catch call
The no catch call on 3rd and goal of Tennessee’s opening drive will be one of the most controversial calls of its game against Appalachian State.
Wide receiver Preston Williams seemed to have caught a touchdown in the back of the end zone before being brought to the ground. However, the referees ruled it an incomplete pass and the Vols were forced to kick a field goal.
Instead of moving ahead, Tennessee trailed Appalachian State 7-3 in the first quarter.
Volquest’s Paul Fortenberry tweeted a closeup view of the play, which can be seen below.

Were the referees right or wrong on this one?
Come one Jones and Deboard kool aid drinkers…….dont start chokin on that kool aid. Pretty GD sad a sunbelt team is taking it to my Vols.
Might be the game plan ? To early to know .
Refs were wrong. 2 feet in the endzone, then a knee all while possessing the ball. Thats a touchdown. Any other team would have had it.
Clearly a catch why wasn’t it overturned ?
they said he lost possession on way down. if you actually watch, he has two feet down, and then his knee hits out of bounds be he hit the ground. That’s called a touchdown in any league. the fact his body hit and football jarred out is actually irrelevant. possession (had it), at least one foot down (had two). and knee on our of bounds while possessing (had it). the rest shouldn’t have mattered.
