There’s mashing, and then there’s the kind of mashing Tennessee has done so far this postseason. Call them Vol bombs and there have been plenty so far.

With five home runs on Saturday against Liberty in just three innings, Tennessee is up to nine home runs in two games so far this regional, which is a new NCAA Tournament program record. That included another blast from Drew Gilbert, who was the hero on Friday with a walk-off grand slam, who launched one to the batter’s eye in center field on Saturday.

Liam Spence and Luc Lipcius also each had two home runs, and combined for six RBIs by the fifth inning. Pete Derkay also added a couple of hits to fuel the offense.

Liberty’s starting pitcher, Dylan Cumming, left after 2 2/3 innings. He’d allowed five homers all season, and allowed that many in a short outing on Saturday.

Even former QB Joshua Dobbs was on hand for the “dinger show” as he described it in a tweet.
