Tennessee smothers Florida, easily advances to SEC Tournament semifinals
The big question for Rick Barnes’ crew this season has often been which team will show up, good Tennessee or bad Tennessee?
Florida got good Tennessee on Friday and it did not bode well for them as the Volunteers march on to the semifinals of the 2021 SEC Tournament after beating the Gators 78-66 in Nashville.
Tre Mann did what he could, leading all scorers with 30 points in the game but Tennessee’s balance, which featured five Vols reaching double-digit points, was too much to overcome for the Gators.
Yves Pons set a career-high with nine blocks in the game to go along with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Vols.
If you missed it, John Fulkerson was injured in the game after Omar Payne hit the Volunteer with a vicious elbow to the head. Payne was ejected and Fulkerson did not return to the court after taking the blow.
With the win, Tennessee moves on to face Alabama on Saturday in the semifinals.
