WATCH: Steve Spurrier throws shade at Rocky Top after Orlando Apollos beat San Antonio Commanders
As a former Florida and South Carolina coach, Steve Spurrier has been a thorn in the side of the Tennessee Volunteers for a number of years.
Even though the Head Ball Coach is now with the Orlando Apollos in the new Alliance of American Football, he’s still taking shots at the Vols.
After the Apollos improved to 2-0 with a win over the San Antonio Commanders in Texas on Sunday, Spurrier compared the atmosphere at the Alamodome to that of Neyland Stadium:
What a game. What a win.

“I think it was just as loud as Rocky Top, to tell you the truth,” Spurrier smiles. “And I know The Swamp is a little bit louder than here. Their fans were really into it, they really were. They did a super job for San Antonio.”
Yes, the HBC meant it more as a compliment to San Antonio than an insult to Tennessee fans, but it’s certainly funny that he’d compare a crowd of just under 30,000 people to the 100,000-plus crowds at Neyland.
Here’s hoping Spurrier never changes.
Once a d-bag, always a d-bag.
Really? Sounds like a compliment to me!
Yea, like the one he used to say about GA. He said it was always good to play GA late in the season, because by then, most of Georgia’s players were in jail.
Geesh…let it go Steve!
It’s sad really. After all these years Tennessee still lives rent free in his head.
Well, there is plenty of vacancy in there.
Lmao, that’s cute, I’m sure he’s 1/100th as obsessed with Tennessee at the pathetic vol fan base is with Florida, get a clue, and get ready for another embarrassing loss this September
Why keep bringing up UT then? He does it often so obviously there’s an issue.
Truth is he’s had a boned for UT since we refused to change our offensive scheme for him as a player. And he’s never gotten over it.
*boner*
Glad to hear TN is still on his mind after all these years.
The GOAT
Spurrier? The GOAT? HA!
I wish we had gotten some of the GOAT during his travesty with the Redskins.
We all remember the biggest crap we’ve ever taken. Tennessee is quite a pile of it.
Do you even remember a Georgia NC? It’ll be 40 years next year.
More clickbait. I watched his comments live. I didn’t see it as an insult to Tennessee. Heck, the writer of the article says as much. Are the headline writers even on the same planet as the story writers?
Yeah I agree sounded more like a compliment to both fl & TN fans more than anything.
It is hilarious that the GOAT can continue to make fun of the school in Knoxville and these ignorant fans let it get to them every time. Fact is that he went to Florida won a Heisman and has owned the school in Knoxville from that time. Hey Tennessee ,” who is ur daddy? The GOAT is ur daddy. You can say that it doesn’t bother you that he says things like he does. Your mouth says one thing but your post say something else. Go GATORS.!!!
This guy is obsessed with Tennessee. Every post in post history is on Tennessee Articles. Must be Spurrier’s account. Steve, we’re sorry you didn’t get offered a scholarship and had to go to a 3rd rate football school, but we commend you, making them relevant for the first time in history in the 90s. There.
Everything coach said was correct. Neyland is not very loud and the SWAMP is by far a better stadium. Truth hurts. Suck it Tennessee. Bow down to the GOAT
Kiss my ass SDS for censoring my comments about your lacidasical journalism
Wow. Nice job getting that one through!
WOW!
Look at you showing them who’s boss.
That makes you’re hanger downs almost as big as peanuts!
Go get em’ genius!
Yes, coaching the “Orlando Apollos” is an appropriate ending for the GOAT. Hee hee.
That role, along with comments like he made in this story, reek of a man desparate to stay in the limelight. Sorry Steve, it’s not working and it’s embarrassing. Can’t you just fade away gracefully?
The GOAT is “fading away” in the same manner as he has lived the last 30 years – winning football games and making Tennessee fans crazy.
Hardly… he’s only a legend in your minds. If you think he makes us crazy because we respond to your feeble trolling attempts, think again. Florida fans proving again how classless and bitter they are.
Bitter? About what?
