WATCH: Tennessee RB Jeremy Banks practices with different position group
Despite being just a true freshman, Jeremy Banks was beginning to carve out a role in Tennessee’s running back group.
Now he might be moving to the other side of the ball.
Banks practiced at middle linebacker Tuesday, a move some figured might be coming for the 6-foot-1, 211-pounder recruited as a running back. You can see Banks going through linebacker drills in the video below, which was tweeted by Volunteers beat writer Jesse Simonton.
NEWS: Vols bruising rookie RB Jeremy Banks practiced at MLB today.
We’ll see how long the experiment lasts but this is a move that’s been rumored for a bit.
Banks certainly has enticing traits that are missing in that unit. How fast can he get ready to play though? pic.twitter.com/onp2N3WaMx

Through seven games, Banks has rushed 41 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns. But he displayed some issues with ball security, which didn’t help his case in a running back room that features Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and Madre London.
His presumed position switch also addresses an area of need for Tennessee, which lost senior linebacker Jonathan Kongbo for the season due to a torn ACL.
It’s unlikely that Banks will be ready to take on an entirely new position when the Volunteers (3-4, 1-3 SEC) travel to face South Carolina (3-3, 2-3) at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. But his situation is something worth monitoring as the season progresses.
